Editing Pictures with PhotoShop Elements 6.0 (ppt)  (pdf)

Computers & Technology Group Co-Chairman Dean Steichen opened the meeting at 9:00 am. Executive committee members in attendance were Dean Steichen, Phil Goff, Dick Curry,  Jack Bevis, Ollie Greenlee, Frank Crua, Lo McCarley, and Vic Moore. Total attendance was 48.

Dean announced that the May meeting would focus on selling on the internet-eBay and Craig’s List. He reminded everyone that we do not meet in June.

Ollie Greenlee has donated to the Group a slide scanner, which is available for use by the members. It is XP based but only USB 1.1 so a little slow. As recorded earlier we will not purchase a turntable to transfer vinyl records. This decision was based on a lack of interest by the group.

The volunteers for this meeting were: Refreshments; Ollie Greenlee, Coffee Masters: Vic Moore, Setup Chairman; Lo McCarley with Bill Barnard, Frank Comprelli and John Ringer.

Ken Haley’s Presentation on Editing Pictures With PhotoShop Elements 6.0

Ken made an extremely interesting, entertaining and informative presentation on how to use Photo Shop Elements 6.0 to improve your  digital photos.

A theme that ran all through the presentation was that PSE6 is a huge and very powerful tool that can do most anything that you or I could want and do it in more than one way. At the same time it is a most forgiving program. If you don’t like the results of something that you have done- never fear- just use Control-Z to go back. He strongly encourages users to go ahead and try something. If it doesn’t work out use Control-Z. It is possible to use it multiple times in sequences. He has counted up to 12 steps back and probably more are possible.

So, it is easy to do. Work your way into all of it possibilities. Just try it.

In this new version Tools have not changed very much from previous versions. But, there are a number of new features that Ken described.

There is a new look. The background is now dark which takes a little getting used to. The images do pop out better from the dark background.

The response time is faster.

There is more step-by-step guidance. This makes it easier to learn because it is less intimidating to try something new.

There is a new improved Quick Selection Tool.

Master-users complain that there is too much “ How to do it stuff.” Not a problem. You can bypass it if you so desire.

Smart Albums are new.

There is an improved PhotoMerge where you can combine elements of one photo into another.

It is easy to create projects, such as calendars and photo books.

Enhanced Sharing. It is easy to reduce file size for convenient emailing and to add messages and addressees.

Ken posed the question whether or not to buy PSE 6.0. He answered by saying that it is easier to learn than previous versions. And that it is a noticeable improvement over version 4.0, which he had. He felt that upgrading from version 5.0 would not be essential.

Ken went on to describe and explain the new features. He also described the main editing tools and demonstrated how to use them. At the end of this very full and rich presentation Ken said that there were features such as using color that would have to await another day.                                     Return to Top
